Lana was my top artist of the year so I’ve put in the hours for this. Initially I was planning on ranking each Lana album against each other but it’s too hard because my rank changes often and this blog is for definite lists ONLY. So instead, I’ll be ranking each album individually. I also spent all summer making my dad listen to Lana and rate the songs but lots of his opinion is were questionable so I had to create this list with the correct rank for anyone else who is confused like him (but also shout out to my dad for humouring me and being awesome for doing that).
SIRENS
For K Part 1 (Drive By)
Birds of a Feather
Bad Disease
Next to Me (River Road)
Aviation
Junky Pride
Pretty Baby
Dear Elliot (Westbound)
Out with a Bang
My Momma
Move (Find My Own Way)
A Star for Nick
Try Tonight
I’m Indebted to You (How Do You Know Me So Well?)
Peace (All you Need)
I’ve decided to be annoying and rank her 2 original unreleased albums because they’re the only reason I have SoundCloud on my phone. Sirens is good to me but that’s probably just because it’s her album I’ve heard the least so I’m the least desensitized to it. It’s also crazy that she can make all the songs sound different when they all have pretty much the exact same background guitar. I love for K part one so much and birds of a feather is probably a controversial choice because the auto tune on it is insane but I weirdly love it. Bad disease and next to me I also love, aviation is super catchy (“so I’m going into aviation” and “fly fighter jets all over the nation” are always stuck in my head), and the junky pride chorus is sososo good. A star for nick until the bottom of the list I don’t like as much (but I do really like the a star for nick bridge - her voice sounds really pretty). This album also feels like a silly little prank because half of the songs have alternate titles.
LANA DEL RAY AKA LIZZY GRANT
Smarty
Pawn Shop Blues
Raise Me Up
For K, pt. 2
Queen of the Gas Station
Jump
Put Me in a Movie
Gramma
Oh Say Can You See
Mermaid Motel
Yayo
Kill Kill
Brite Lites
This album is super silly to me because the production on each song is so different so you never really know what’s coming next. Having consistent production throughout an album is never something I’ve cared about though and I like being on the edge of my seat listening to this tbh. Smarty I love because it’s so different than a lot of other Lana and Pawn shop blues is probably my favourite sad Lana song. Raise me up is fun, for k part 2 is super mysterious and it sounds so good in my ears, I like queen of the gas station because the lyrics “c’mon kitty cat” speak to me, and jump makes me think of summer. The mermaid motel kind of freaks me out and I can’t tell if it’s in a good or bad way and I’ve never been a big yayo fan but I like the version on this album more than paradise. Brite lites is the only Lana song that I actually can’t listen to…it actually pains my ears and scares me. Also fun fact is that she spelt “Rey” as “Ray” during this time.
BORN TO DIE
Million Dollar Man
Carmen
Lolita
Born To Die
Dark Paradise
Radio
Diet Mountain Dew
Off To The Races
Lucky Ones
Summertime Sadness
National Anthem
Without You
This Is What Makes Us Girls
Blue Jeans
Video Games
This might be the hardest Lana to rank because I love most of these songs equally. That being said million dollar man will always come out first. Whenever I hear it I think of her live performances doing it and it’s so so good. Carmen was my favourite Lana a few years ago and I still really like it and the instrumentals. Lolita is fun x mysterious x freaky crossover and I like that. Born to die is like the perfect album introduction and dark paradise has my favourite Lana lyric (and theres no remedy for memory, your face is like a melody, it wont leave my head). Radio and Diet Mountain Dew are an amazing classics. Off to the races is my dad’s all time favourite Lana song. Lucky ones used to probably be my least favourite on this album but I’ve been loving it lately so I’m rolling with that. I’m not big on the verses or even choruses of blue jeans but I love the bridge and will always love her snl performance of it. It’s sad to put video games last because it was her debut single but it’s honestly just not me favourite.
PARADISE
Ride
American
Gods & Monsters
Body Electric
Cola
Burning Desire
Bel Air
Yayo
Blue Velvet
Ride = so good, the bridge = so good, the monologue = so good. The beginning of the chorus of American is everything to me. I feel like I always forget about it and then I hear it and I’ll like omg this is too good. Gods and monsters and body electric are fun and cola has a perfect opening line. Bel air, yayo, and blue velvet are all very meh.
ULTRAVIOLENCE
Shades Of Cool
West Coast
Sad Girl
Pretty When You Cry
Ultraviolence
Cruel World
Florida Kilos
The Other Woman
Fucked My Way To The Top
Black Beauty
Brooklyn Baby
Guns And Roses
Old Money
Money Power Glory
Shades of cool is everything. Obsessed with when she makes the words “I” and “you” into so many syllables during the chorus and this is probably my favourite Lana bridge. Her speaking over the guitar is so good. West coast and sad girl I just like. Pretty when you cry and Ultraviolence were amazing when I saw Lana (yes, I saw Lana in concert) so that boosted them for me slightly. Cruel world is a classic and totally does not feel like 7 minutes. I love when she says “chic-a-cherry cola lime” in Florida kilos. And the other woman makes me feel sad in a good way. I love the intro of guns and roses but then after that it starts to lose the plot a bit for me. And then money power glory is just too repetitive.
HONEYMOON
The Blackest Day
Art Deco
Salvatore
Terrence Loves You
Music To Watch Boys To
Freak
Swan Song
High By The Beach
24
Honeymoon
Religion
Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood
God Knows I Tried
Burnt Norton - Interlude
The blackest day and art deco have always been my favourites on honeymoon, not sure why, they’re just amazing. Also kind of bonus points because I love the transition from freak to art deco when you’re listening to the album fully through. Salvatore is fun cause it’s different and I feel like I’m living out a euro summer. Terrence loves you is another example of where I like being sad, mtwbt and freak are fun and upbeat, swan song is so beautiful. I don’t really love dlmbm (don’t normally love when Lana does covers) and good knows I tried. And then the interlude is good but isn’t better than any actual song.
LUST FOR LIFE
Cherry
Get Free
When The World Was At War We Kept Dancing
Heroin
13 Beaches
White Mustang
Summer Bummer
God Bless America - And All The Beautiful Women In It
Lust For Life
In My Feelings
Groupie Love
Coachella - Woodstock In My Mind
Love
Change
Tomorrow Never Came
Beautiful People Beautiful Problems
This album is so so good and has some of my top 10 Lana songs: cherry, get free, and wtwwawwkd, but I dont love a lot of the collabs tbh. Cherry is actually probably my favourite Lana song of time and was ridiculously good live. Heroin is also up there because of how it builds. I love the whistle part in white mustang and love the part of summer bummer when it goes “her sophistication make you wanna quit the bitch you dating” - its always stuck in my head. And then I also super duper love the bridge of in my feelings but the rest of the song for me is meh. Also love the gbaaatbwit bridge but it’s short. Coachella used to one of my all time least fav Lana songs but I’ve really been liking it lately so it’s getting a redemption arc. And then obviously I love Stevie nicks but beautiful people beautiful problems is really not it for me.
NORMAN FUCKING ROCKWELL!
Mariners Apartment Complex
How to disappear
Venice Bitch
Cinnamon Girl
The Next Best American Record
Norman fucking Rockwell
Happiness is a butterfly
The greatest
hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have - but I have it
California
Fuck it I love you
Doin’ Time
Bartender
Love song
A quick note to start this one off is that I love that the album name ends with an exclamation point. Also, this was my first favourite Lana album and the only one I listened to very heavily for like a year (which was honestly so valid because its an amazing album), but it’s very hard to judge because I’m especially desensitized to it. Mariners apartment complex, how to disappear, and Venice bitch are all perfect. Whenever I hear cinnamon girl now, I think back to when my driving instructor accidentally had it playing on a loop for the majority of my lesson without realizing (but I wasn’t upset because its a great song with a great bridge and I love it). TNBAR gets bonus points because of the architecture shout out and I love the outro of the greatest. I just love hiadtdtfawlmthbihi and Lana was also being super silly making a crazy long title like this and then making it all lower case - so milk and honey coded. Honestly all of these songs are great even the ones I placed low and doing this reminded me how good this album is.
CHEMTRAILS OVER THE COUNTRY CLUB
White Dress
Yosemite
Wild At Heart
Tulsa Jesus Freak
Dark But Just A Game
Chemtrails Over The Country Club
Dance Till We Die
Not All Who Wander Are Lost
Let Me Love You Like A Woman
Breaking Up Slowly
For Free
If someone asked me my favourite Lana album I would probably say Chemtrails (I know, very controversial). This album was the easiest to rank because it has some of my favourite Lana songs of all time (white dress, Yosemite, wild at heart, Tulsa Jesus freak, dbjag, cocc) and also two of my least favs (breaking up, slowly and for free). I always want to say chemtrails is my favourite Lana album but it’s so hard when i have two major skips on it. But because of this, this is the rating I’m the most sure on, like this is 100% correct. White dress is my favourite because her voice just sounds so insanely good. Yosemite is a song I feel like I wouldn’t normally like but for some reason I love it. The lyrics are definitely supposed to be sad but I always interpret them as happy and I’m obsessed with them (with the happy interpretation). Wild at heart, Tulsa Jesus freak, dark but just a game, and chemtrails all are just fun and sound so good in my ears. I think chemtrails is probably my favourite title track from Lana. Love the bridge in dance till we die and I like the sound of natwwal but it does kind of give me cringe Pinterest quote which isn’t my favourite thing ever.
BLUE BANISTERS
Thunder
Wildflower Wildfire
Sweet Carolina
Black Bathing Suit
Dealer
Textbook
If You Lie Down With Me
Living Legend
Arcadia
Nectar Of The Gods
Interlude - The Trio
Blue Banisters
Cherry Blossom
Beautiful
Violets for Roses
I wasn’t always a blue banisters fan but it’s really been hitting the spot these past few months. It’s also so hilarious as a time capsule of 2021 because of the random references (covid, I phone 11, etc.) Lurvvve thunder for the bridge (I feel like I’ve been saying that about a lot of songs but I’m a bridge girl and theres nothing that can be done about that). I love the build up of the background instrumental for the last chorus of wildflower wildfire, sweet Carolina is cute and “you name your babe lilac heaven after your I phone 11” will never not be iconic, and I love the pre chorus and chorus of black bathing suit. Dealer is great and was my first favourite off the album but I want more Lana and less of the random man. Also I secretly love the sound of textbook even though that’s a controversial take because the lyrics are cringy. Arcadia isnt the type of song I would usually like but “all roads that lead to you as integral to me as arteries that get the blood flowing straight to the heart of me” is one of my favourite Lana lyrics. I used to joke that the interlude was my favorite song on Blue Banisters but after some reflection and new appreciation for the album, I’ve realized that that claim is false (but its still the best Lana interlude). Cherry blossom, beautiful, and violets for roses are all kind of skips for me but I’ll normally still listen to them is I’m listening to this album.
DID YOU KNOW THAT THERE’S A TUNNEL UNDER OCEAN BLVD
Taco Truck x VB
Paris, Texas
A&W
Peppers
Grandfather please stand on the shoulders of my father while he’s deep-sea fishing
Candy Necklace
Fishtail
Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd
Let The Light In
Sweet
Margaret
The Grants
Kintsugi
Fingertips
Jon Batiste Interlude
Judah Smith Interlude
Hot take potentially but this is probably my least favourite Lana album. I have the interludes hidden on my Spotify and then sweet, Margaret (sorry to margret qualley because I love her), the grants, kingsugi, and fingertips are all skips to me. I love taco truck x vb but the first time I heard it I thought I had finished the album after the taco truck part and thought that Spotify was just shuffling a Venice bitch remix on. And then I was like ohh that’s what vb means. Paris Texas, a & w, and peppers are all different in their own way and sound great. Gpsotsomfwgdsf has a stupidly ricouslus name buut it makes me love it. And I love the piano in candy necklace. Fishtail is also good idk, I’m running out of things to say because for most songs I just like them because I like them, theres no actual reason.
What’s your favourite Lana album?

Lana Del Ray A.K.A. Lizzy Grant
